EIFS and STUCCO Mesh
Exterior Insulation and Finishing Systems (“EIFS”) commonly include a layer of alkali-resistant fiberglass mesh which is attached to the exterior face of the rigid foam insulation which underlies the system. This fiberglass mesh is covered with a layer of basecoat and serves to reinforce the EIFS system against cracking. 38” and 48” wide mesh is used to cover large areas, whereas narrower widths such as 9 ½” are used around doors and windows. The most common weight of EIFS mesh is 4.5 ounce per square yard. Heavier meshes weighing from 9 to 20 ounce per square yard are used in high impact areas.
In stucco applications, fiberglass reinforcing mesh is applied directly to the wall surface and is then covered with stucco, As in EIFS applications, the fiberglass mesh reinforces the stucco against cracking.
Adhesive fiberglass mesh is attached to rigid foam decorative trim before the trim is covered with base coat. Adhesive mesh is available in two weights: 4.5 and 2.2 ounces per square yard.
